Arenas
U.S. Cellular Coliseum
The U.S. Cellular Coliseum will be used for major events such as concerts, hockey, indoor football games and conventions. It will also include an attached ice rink (Pepsi Ice Center) for public use featuring skating lessons, youth and adult hockey and a rink pro shop. The Coliseum is scheduled to open in 2006.
Redbird Arena
Illinois State University's Redbird Arena, distinguishable by its unique Teflon-coated elevated roof, serves as the home for ISU's basketball and volleyball teams. Concerts, conventions and other sporting events also take place at the arena.
Cultural Districts
Bloomington Cultural District
Scheduled for completion in 2006, three blocks of the north end of downtown Bloomington are being transformed into the Bloomington Cultural District. The foundation for the District is the Scottish Rite Temple, which is currently under renovation to become a modernized performance hall, the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts. A Creativity Center for Arts Education and Festival Park are also planned.
Normal Downtown Redevelopment Plan
The Town of Normal is currently redeveloping its downtown area. Planned for inclusion are a traffic roundabout; a multi-modal center which will be home to Amtrak, regional bus systems, the Bloomington-Normal Public Transit System, taxis, bicycle racks and a parking garage; the Children's Discovery Museum; a hotel and conference center and various infrastructure and street improvements.
