top of page
The Economic Development Council of the Bloomington-Normal Area now has the Economic Development Almanac available for use by businesses and organizations seeking information about McLean County. The Almanac has nearly 150 pages of information, demographics, statistics and data about McLean County, Bloomington and Normal. In addition, there is information regarding economic development programs, state and federal assistance programs, Small Business Administration programs, taxes and others.
The Almanac was designed to provide the most detailed information about the local economy to seekers of information. The information found in the Almanac is the type site location consultants, real estate brokers and executives making key decisions about expansions and relocations are often seeking. With the publication of the Almanac, the EDC also rolled out the new Web site, www.bnbiz.org. Information in the Almanac matches that which is found on the Web site. The Web site also offers the information in PDF and Excel or Word formats.
The Economic Development Council of the Bloomington-Normal Area is determined to provide the best possible information about McLean County and Bloomington-Normal in a professional and highly responsive manner. If you have any questions about the Almanac or the Web site, please feel free to contact the EDC at
(309) 661-6332.
If you were unable to attend the Economic Development Almanac Breakfast on April 6, 2005, and did not receive an Almanac, they are available for $40.00 each. Location One Information System is now available -
top of page
The EDC is now employing the Location One Information System. This centralized database provides the real estate professional, site location consultant or business executive the ability to conduct real time on-line searches for sites and buildings in McLean County.
To attract new companies in today's highly competitive environment, economic development professionals need to maintain reliable, comprehensive data that is easily and quickly accessible. LOIS is an on-line searchable database designed specifically for organizations performing economic development activities. All of the data on LOIS can be printed in PDF or HTML format or downloaded into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, thus facilitating a variety of options for analyzing a location.
Unique features of LOIS
- Single database that promotes collaboration between economic developers and local real estate offices
- Allows for easy addition, editing and deletion of site content for localities, sites and buildings
- Customizable – insert organization title, choose text styles and colors and add a logo or banner
- Ability to place a link on economic developer’s Web site that will list the sites and buildings for a specific county or locality
Local McLean County real estate brokers and realtors can contact the EDC to include their properties in the system. The EDC will give you all the information you need to get your property on-line.
Why should brokers list their property with LOIS? Often a site selection consultant's first stop in the fact-finding process is to visit an economic development organization's Web site. A growing company looking to locate in a new area or a local company looking to expand can visit the EDC’s Web site and then click on the link for LOIS. Using LOIS will allow them to search for demographic data, tax incentives, photos of available sites, an overview with a description of the property, details of the cost and zoning and a map and printable flier.
The LOIS database is free to anyone in McLean County. Contact us now to get your property listed.

Speaker presents predictions for U.S. economy - top
of page
The EDC had the honor of having Walt Czaicki, an economist and senior vice president with St. Louis-based Commerce Trust Co., speak at the EDC’s First Annual Economic Development Almanac Breakfast. Commerce Bank Illinois was a sponsor of the breakfast. Czaicki gave a presentation on the status of the U.S. economy and projections for the near future. According to Czaicki, the U.S. economy seems strong and though it has slowed down, it should continue growing at approximately the Fed’s desired “sustainable trend growth” of 3.5 percent. In spite of an energy shock and rising short-term interest rates, economic growth continues and job creation remains positive, fueled by business capital investment. “The economy has faced some tough head winds in the form of high fuel costs and rising interest rates,” said Czaicki. “The economy has slowed, but it’s still going strong.”
Czaicki expects the Fed to continue raising interest rates at a measured pace until rates reach 3.5 or 4 percent, and he believes the yield curve will flatten further due to high energy prices and diminishing fiscal stimulus from the government. As for inflation, Czaicki predicts that a number of factors will keep it in check despite the 7.2 percent increase in energy prices in the last nine months. In regard to the threat of recession, Czaicki said “the economy has slowed down, but it is not in a death spiral. So, keep the faith.”
