(Normal, Ill.)—A new manufacturer is set to begin operations in McLean County after purchasing an existing facility in northeast Normal.
American Precision Assemblers (APA) is an established supplier of wire harnesses and cable and mechanical assemblies for industries ranging from healthcare and safety diagnostics to aircraft, automotive, and military defense contracts.
“We are very excited to welcome APA to our community,” says Mike O’Grady, interim CEO of the Bloomington-Normal Economic Development Council (BNEDC). “This is the third manufacturer within two years to locate in McLean County, which shows that our workforce, our location, and our community are very attractive to outside business.”
APA, based out of Hampshire, Ill., already has three existing facilities, including locations in Hampshire, Duluth, Minn., and Sonora, Mexico. The new facility will be located at 1 Paper Chase Street in Normal.
“Our model is to be near our customer base, and we were really attracted to the labor force, the location, and the desired capacity in Bloomington-Normal,” says Dave Scheck, head of Business Development for APA. “We have operated for 26 years under a model of safety, quality, service, and cost. We are confident that model will work well in this community.”
According to Scheck, the Normal plant will focus largely on supplying equipment for Precision Planting in Tremont, Ill. APA began renting space at the facility on May 1, with closing on the property scheduled for June 1.
APA expects hiring to continue throughout 2018, with an expected capacity of 30 to 40 assemblers and an additional 10 to 15 support and office positions.
