Rivian hosts EDC group at Plymouth facility

PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Representatives from partner entities in Bloomington-Normal and McLean County received an inside look at Rivian Automotive’s new design and engineering center in Plymouth, Mich., on Monday, April 23, 2018.

The visiting members of government, educational, and business groups helped attract Rivian to acquire its 2.6 million-square-foot manufacturing facility in central Illinois.

Meeting with Rivian executives, they took a behind the scenes glimpse of Rivian’s vehicle design, advanced engineering and proprietary technology for its first two fully electric adventure vehicles, a pick-up truck and SUV. The Company also provided an overview of its business strategy and production plans.

“We appreciate the interest and support that Bloomington, Normal and McLean County have given Rivian over the past year and look forward to growing our workforce in central Illinois and increasing our involvement in local activities,” says RJ Scaringe, CEO and Chairman of Rivian.

“We gained a greater appreciation for the comprehensive technology Rivian has developed for enhanced vehicle dynamics, connected vehicle, self-driving and battery/energy storage systems” says Kyle Ham, CEO of the Bloomington-Normal Economic Development Council. “We look forward to future announcements from the company as it emerges from stealth mode this year.”

Additionally, discussions were held with Rivian senior management regarding future growth plans for the company’s Normal site and identification of collaborative areas for supporting education and other local initiatives.
