(BIRMINGHAM, Ala.)—The Bloomington-Normal Economic Development Council (BNEDC) is part of a national recognition for the collaborative work done in landing Rivian Automotive in McLean County.
The 13th annual CiCi (Corporate Investment & Community Impact) Awards are presented by Trade & Industry Development magazine. 30 total recipients across the United States (15 for corporate investment, 15 for community impact) are chosen annually for the distinction.
“The CiCi Awards are unique in that, in addition to commemorating the largest capital investments for development or expansion announced within a given year, they equally recognize projects for the positive impact they will have on a community,” said Scott D. Swoger, publisher of Trade & Industry Development.
BNEDC, the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO), and the Town of Normal are recognized along with Rivian Automotive as part of the honor. In addition, important stakeholders involved include McLean County, Bloomington-Normal Water Reclamation District, Central Illinois Regional Airport, Normal Public Library, Unit 5 School District, and Heartland Community College.
“We are honored that other industry professionals value the efforts of McLean County,” said interim CEO Mike O’Grady. “We are confident in the work that Rivian is already doing to impact our community, and this award shows others feel that way, too.”
Among the criteria considered for CiCi recognition are the number of jobs created and/or retained, area unemployment figures, average income level of the region, area plant closings or decline in industry segments and the creation of new industry segments with employment opportunities.
