Transportation

Bloomington-Normal lies at the center of Illinois transportation networks.

McLean County boasts an excellent network, with three major interstate highways intersecting to provide easy access to Chicago, Indianapolis, and St. Louis.  The Central Illinois Regional Airport provides non-stop service to Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Denver, Detroit, and several Florida locations, linking McLean County residents to one stop from any destination in the world.

There is also a major rail corridor that passes straight through Bloomington-Normal on its way between Chicago and St. Louis. Rail passenger carrier Amtrak operates daily through Uptown Station, a multi-modal transportation hub in Normal. Amtrak ridership rates are the second-highest in Illinois, trailing only Chicago.  For commercial use, four freight railroads (Canadian National; Norfolk Southern; Toledo, Peoria & Western; and Union Pacific) run through the county.

For those on foot, the world-class Constitution Trail covers over 45 miles of Bloomington-Normal and the surrounding area.
